Tropical Storm Hilary, the first to hit Southern California in 84 years, forced the organizers of Palm Springs’ Splash House festival to get creative on the last day of the third and final weekend of this year’s run.
In celebration of the festival’s 10th anniversary, last weekend’s event featured performances from Matroda, Skream, Tchami, SIDEPIECE and many more. While the first two 2023 editions went off without a hitch, the last one’s festivities were moved indoors due to the storm.
Earlier in the week, Splash House’s organizers alerted attendees of the then-potential changes, saying they were “ready to take the party indoors.”
The storm ultimately caused flooding, plenty of road disruptions and downed trees and power lines. Despite the severe weather and some criticism from attendees, organizers acted fast and decided to move forward, repurposing the ballrooms of the Renaissance, Saguaro and Margaritaville hotels into dancefloors where a bevy of the festival’s performers took the stage.
That included EDM.com Class of 2023 star Westend, who shared his experience on social media.
